CP World Report: Palestinian UN Status, Syria, Christmas Tree Controversy

The United Kingdom says it will not support a bid to upgrade Palestinian status at the United Nations in its present form. The General Assembly is expected to vote today on whether to grant the Palestinians recognition as a "non-member observer state." The U-S and Israel both oppose the move and so does Canada, but France has given its support. Back in September at the gathering of the UN General Assembly Prime Minister Stephen Harper met briefly with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and asked him personally to drop his bid for upgraded status.

Government officials blamed the attacks on terrorists, a term Syria routinely uses for rebel fighters and extremist elements in the country.
