Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney chose his running mate over the weekend: Wisconsin Republican, Paul Ryan. As Chairman of the House Budget Committee, the 42 year old Ryan underscores Romney's effort to make the election a referendum on the nation's economy. Romney's standing has improved in Wisconsin, a state that saw a clear win for the Democrats four years ago. Speaking in High Point, North Carolina, Romney credited Ryan for bringing people together….
The Canadian government plans to spend millions in food and medical supplies to help Syrian refugees and the Jordanian government taking them in. Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird made the announcement over the weekend when he visited a refugee camp in Jordan near the Syrian border. It currently houses over thirty three hundred. Other countries taking in Syrian refugees are Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq, and they are seeking UN help. UN agencies say they need about one hundred ninety three million dollars by the end of 2012 to help about one hundred and eighty five thousand refugees.
Meantime, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says the U.S plans on developing contingency plans with Turkish allies in the event that the Syrian regime collapses.

A 6.5 magnitude earthquake has killed at least two hundred and fifty people and injured more than two thousand others in Iran. It was followed by seventeen aftershocks. Iran is located on seismic fault lines. In two thousand three, thirty thousand people died in an earthquake. And in nineteen ninety, about fifty thousand were killed in another earthquake. Iran experiences at least one quake per day, although most of them are so small they go unnoticed.
A member of the Afghan National Police opened fire on his own colleagues at a checkpoint in southwestern Afghanistan this weekend killing at least ten of his fellow policemen. The day before two Afghans—one of them also a policeman—shot and killed 6 U.S. Service members. Afghan attacks on their international partners are on the rise.
93 Year old Billy Graham was admitted to a North Carolina hospital for an infection in his lungs. A spokesman said it was thought to be bronchitis. He is receiving antibiotics and is in stable condition.
The amazing landing of the U-S Mars Rover "Curiosity" isn't the only thing that has people talking. One of the men who helped land it is also getting attention. NASA Engineer Bobak Ferdowski was spotted sporting a red and black mohawk with yellow stars on the sides …. while the landing was airing. He immediately became an internet sensation, earning the name "mohawk guy." He says he hopes his unique look will inspire people.

The London Games came to a close with a spectacular celebration of British pop music yesterday in front of a crowd of some 80-thousand spectators. The U.S. led the medal count with 104 overall, 46 of them were gold. China finished with 87, followed by Great Britain with 65 and Canada had 18. In a new twist, the 10,000-plus athletes entered the stadium through the stands, some high-fiving members of the audience.
On the last day of the Olympics the U.S. beat Spain in men's Basketball 107-100.
On Saturday night, Usian Bolt anchored the Jamaican team to a world record in the 4 by 100 metre relay.
