The high profile and emotional Canadian murder trial of 8 year old Tori Stafford is over. Michael Rafferty has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years. He was convicted of first-degree murder, in the kidnapping and sexual assault causing bodily harm of the child. Superior Court Judge Thomas Heeney called Rafferty a monster. Rafferty will join Terri-Lynne McClintic, his ex-lover and partner in the gruesome crime, in being sentenced to life in prison. She pleaded guilty two years ago to first-degree murder, admitting she lured Tori away, with the promise of seeing a dog and delivered the child to Rafferty for repeated sexual assaults.
A Florida mother shot her four children to death, then turned the gun on herself at her home in Port St. John. Police say there was no apparent motive. She was identified as 33 year old Tanya Thomas. Her children ranged in age from 12 to 17.

An Independent panel is being set up to review Wycliffe and S.I.L. International Bible translations. The groups have faced criticism over their translations of biblical terms relating to God the Father and Jesus the Son of God for editions intended for use within Islamic contexts. The panel will review standards of translation within the two organisations, which have agreed to abide by all the recommendations.

He is a Roman Catholic who has recently talked about ending his fighting career to focus on his religious beliefs.
