CSI Cyber season 2 spoilers; Avery may become the new director

The latest spin-off of the massive CSI franchise has ended its first season and is now headed into a second one. This, despite the freshman season of CSI Cyber meeting with lackluster reviews and dismal ratings that nearly saw it canceled. Fortunately, CBS saw enough potential in the show and renewed it.

Peter MacNicol of "All Mc Beal" and "Numb3rs" fame, who was part of the original cast of CSI Cyber, has left the show and will not be returning next season. MacNicol played the director of the cybercrimes unit and was the boss of Avery Ryan (Patricia Arquette). The producers of the show said "that the character's exit was merely a creative move and nothing more."

Fans of the newly canceled original "CSI" will be delighted to know that D.B Russell (Ted Danson) will be joining the cast in the upcoming season. However, it should be noted that Danson's character will be an underling as opposed to the leadership role that fans saw in Las Vegas. It will be very interesting to see how Russell integrates himself with his new team and his new role under his very good friend Ryan.

The rest of the cast remains the same in the new season. James Van Der Beek, Shad Moss, Charlie Koontz, and Hayley Kiyoko are all set to return as their respective characters. The addition of Danson should be a very good thing for the show as his character can carry the fans of the previous show with him. However, the writers of the show should concentrate on developing the background of the characters, in order to keep the interest of the viewers.

The previous season ended in a shocking cliff-hanger as viewers saw Krumitz (Charlie Koontz) talk to his sister after she admitted to killing the person who murdered their parents when they were kids. The new season will most definitely address this dilemma of Krumitz and whether or not he helps his sister.

The upcoming season will see Avery possibly take over Simon Sifter's (Peter MacNicol) old job as Russell joins the team. Meanwhile, Krumitz testifies at his sister's trial and Elijah (James Van Der Beek) deals with some domestic problems. Also, fans will get to know more about the backgrounds of Raven (Hayley Kiyoko) and Nelson (Shad Moss).

The second season of CSI Cyber is set to air on Oct. 4.
