'Curb Your Enthusiasm' Season 9 News, Air Date: Trailer Finds Larry Back to His Usual Ways; EP Discusses What to Expect

HBO has released a new trailer for the highly anticipated ninth season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

Aptly titled "Larry's Back & Nothing Has Changed," the trailer opened with Larry going about his morning routine. He struggled with his shampoo bottle and broke his shoe lace while tying his sneakers. But most of all, his usual candid self got him into trouble, particularly when he appeared in court in front of a judge. Larry also told a grieving woman to keep quiet and shoved another for spraying him with cologne at a store.

Meanwhile, Carrie Brownstein of "Portlandia" makes an appearance as one of Larry's colleagues who does not show up for work because of constipation. Another guest appearance previewed in the trailer is from Bryan Cranston, who seems to be portraying Larry's therapist.

"I enjoy the mind of Larry David," Cranston says.

It was clear that Larry's candid and abrasive behavior did not make him an appealing person, as many people were shown telling him to leave. A bus driver even threw him out of the bus and told him never to ride her bus again. And, as usual, Larry still had a huge problem with public displays of affection.

"Curb Your Enthusiasm" has been off the air for six years. But when it returns, some things are going to be different, while others will stay the same. Season 9 will pick up five years after the season 8 finale.

Executive producer Jeff Schaffer previewed to Variety that the new season will still find Larry and Cheryl (Cheryl Hines) divorced and both single. It will also show what Larry has been up to.

"Larry's been working on a singular project for the last five years, and now it's time to show it to other people, and we'll see how that goes," Schaffer said. "Jeff actually gets to work as his manager more this season!"

Schaffer also teased a much more packed season since they were trying to cram five years' worth of stories.

"So this season is dense and full and big because there's been a five-year log-jam of indignities and violations of etiquette," he said. But that does not mean the characters will have changed. "They're as delightfully problematic as you remember," he teased.

"Curb Your Enthusiasm" season 9 will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 1, on HBO.
