WASHINGTON – Fostering Christian education in the local communities, the Greater Washington Christian Education Association, Inc. will be hosting its annual convention this weekend with churches, seminaries and Christian organizations invited to be empowered.

The 50-year-old nonprofit volunteer organization will continue its yearly strengthening of educational ministries in the local church and the Christian community with workshops and sessions directed toward both the youth and those who minister to teens. Attendants will participate to exchange ideas and gain a learning opportunity as Bible study teachers, youth workers, or anyone interested in being involved in the field of Christian education.

The two-day convention, which begins Friday night, will be held at High Point High School in Beltsville, Md., with a focus on children's ministry, men, and women. Session topics include "Empowering Christian Education in an Urban Setting," "Reaching the New Americans: Equipping the American Church to Reach the New Americans in the 21st Century," "Uniting the Church and Community to Build Lives," and "Raising Spiritual Champions: Children's Ministry for the 21st Century."

Featured at the event will be speakers such as Dr. William E. Niblette, a sought-after keynote speaker specializing in leadership training, teaching skills and children's ministry; Pastor Larry Katz, a member of the Board of Trustees of Good News Jail and Prison Ministry of Richmond, Va.; and Cheryl Torain, director of the Women's Ministry Leadership Council among many others.

A spokesperson of Child Evangelism Fellowship in Maryland said the convention serves to "help train people who want more training" through the larger multitude of classes that are being offered this year compared to past conventions.

The Greater Washington Christian Education Association is a group of Christians working together to perform ministry for Christ with the local church. It seeks to help evaluate, strengthen, and improve the educational ministry of the local church with monthly or bi-monthly meetings held to plan for the yearly convention.
