D-Link Router Security Problems, Risks: 'Badly Designed' D-Link 850-L Should Be Taken Off the Internet, Researcher Warns
A security researcher warns owners of D-Link 850L routers, a model that he describes as "badly designed," to disconnect them from the Internet immediately. The security loopholes in these devices were so wide he got access to everything on the network, thanks to the flaws in the device's design.
D-Link has also left other previously reported vulnerabilities without a fix, according to ZDNet. Instead of quickly patching up these security loopholes, the router maker has let at least ten bugs remain open to hackers and other outside threats.
Security researcher Pierre Kim has given up trying to get D-Link to fix their security gaps, and instead has turned to his blog to directly warn owners of the D-Link 850L series. In his post to social media, he hinted at the weak link that is the MyDlink Cloud feature, a component that lets users connect remotely to their home network.

Kim did not mince word in trashing the router. "The Dlink 850L is a router overall badly designed with a lot of vulnerabilities," he stated right at the top of his summary of the security holes that he found in the device.
D-Link, for their part, chose to ignore the researcher. "D-Link did not make any effort to contact the security researcher even after the initial advisory was published, but it posted its official answers and patches on their website that the security researcher found 'by chance,'" he said in an earlier post.
Kim concluded that with D-Link's handling of these vulnerability disclosures, it's best for users to just disconnect the router from the Internet. He claims to have compromised the router to such an extent as to have access to the local area network (LAN) and gain the admin password for complete control of the MyDLink feature.
Both researcher and media outlets are still waiting for an official word from D-Link as of this time.
