Dakota Fanning Ad Too Provocative? The Cost of Stardom
Actress Dakota Fanning has recently defended previously banned ads that were deemed "sexually provocative" in the U.K. But is the young actress being naïve?
Fanning was not yet 18 when she posed for a Marc Jacobs ad promoting the fragrance "Lola." The ad depicts Fanning lying back, with the bottle of fragrance placed between her legs. The ads were later banned in the U.K. after being deemed "sexually provocative" by the U.K.'s Advertising Standards Authority.
Now at 19 years of age, Fanning has suggested that the 2011 ads were not at all provocative. During a recent interview with Glamour magazine the actress was asked if she was surprised by the backlash that ensued after the ad ran.
"Yeah, I was! If you want to read something into a perfume bottle, then I guess you can," she told the magazine. "But it's also like, Why are you making it about that, you creep? I love Marc and trust him, and we just laughed about it."
However, some fans have disagreed and responded by saying her latest comments show that she is a little naïve.
Fanning has also spoken about her recent film "Very Good Girls," in which she admits to shooting her first nude scene.
"Yeah, well, I've never done that before and I'm very newly allowed to do that," Fanning told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival. "I was newly 18, so yeah, it was, it's kind of a sensitive thing, but it's a part of life."
However, once again Fanning's suggestion that agreeing to do nude scenes was "just a part of life" has also proven controversial.
