Dallas Cowboys Cash In as Redskins Target Tony Romo
DeAngelo Hall, Washington Redskins QB, said he would aim for Tony Romo’s fractured rib in Monday night’s game but could not bring home the win for his team.
Under Romo’s leadership, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Washington Redskins 18-16 in the battle that took place at the Cowboy’s stadium. Although Romo did not put any touchdowns on his record that night, he completed 22 of 36 passes for 255 and an interception.
The QB’s teammates were inspired by his ability to return to the field despite his injuries. Dez Bryant, Cowboys’ wide receiver who returned to the game after missing a game due to a thigh injury, spoke about the importance of Romo’s leadership on the field.
"Tony inspired me to play," Bryant said, according to The Boston Herald. "He’s a warrior. He’s leading us. We’re all behind him, because he’s going to lead us in the right direction."
Romo said he had no question about getting into the game.
"We’re football players," Romo said, according to The Boston Herald. "Guys just want to play. I know I do. We only get to go out here and do this 16 times really. I mean, 16 days out of 365 days, you want to be out there. You put so much time and effort into it that if you can go, you go."
Romo was the focus on the field for the Redskins on Monday night, when it seemed the entire defense made him the focal point. With all of the linebackers and safeties focused on Romo, the QB was able to pass the ball to Bryant at a crucial moment to turn the game around and ultimately secure a win for the team.
“They sent just about everybody,” Romo said of the play, according to The Washington Post. “Dez did a good job of continuing to run his route. I put a little air under the ball and let him run under it.”
Mike Shanahan, Redskins’ coach, credited Romo’s exceptional skills with the Cowboy’s win and said he would assess his team’s mistakes
“Those things you do in football. You go back and you evaluate yourself, but [at] the end of the day, you either get it done or you don’t,” Shanahan said, according to The Washington Post. “Romo did a good job scrambling, made a play, and hey, it happens. That’s the nature of this game.”
