Dallas Cowboys Hold Workouts for Cordrea Tankersley and Kevin King
The Dallas Cowboys lost a lot of their free agents this offseason and four of them happens to be key members of their secondary. Cornerback starters Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr have signed elsewhere, and strong safeties Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox are gone as well.
Jeff Heath and Kavon Frazier can step up and fill the holes left behind by Church and Wilcox at strong safety, and Byron Jones should start at free safety. However, the team has more pressing issues at the cornerback position. The Cowboys managed to sign former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Nolan Carroll a few weeks ago, and Orlando Scandrick, Anthony Brown and Leon McFadden are also available at cornerback. But they still need to add more depth at the position and they will have to do that via the draft.
According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys held an official pre-draft workout for Clemson's Cordrea Tankersley, and Bleacher Report's Matt Miller has also reported that they were also meeting Washington's Kevin King.
Both should be a good fit with the Cowboys, but several observers have pointed out that King looks like the type of player the team needs and his draft stock is trending up lately.
SportsDay special contributor Bob Sturm has this to say about King in his piece about cornerbacks the Cowboys should consider drafting:
"I think he is a corner who for some reason is slipping under the radar this season, but I would value him quite highly as he seems to do just about everything well. His physical traits are unreal as a 6'3 guy who runs a 4.43 with a 39" vertical. Add to that he is a safety that moved to cornerback a few years ago, so he loves contact of a safety but has the characteristics of a cornerback. Very appealing combination."
Of course, Tankersley also has the size and skills to be a number one cornerback. Either player will be good for the Cowboys.
