Dallas Cowboys NFL Trade Rumors 2017: Cowboys, Redskins, 49ers Could Do Trade for Kirk Cousins and Tony Romo
The rumor mill has been churning non-stop since the annual scouting combine began, but this one probably raised more than a few eyebrows.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport has reported that the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers are working on a three-team trade involving Tony Romo and Kirk Cousins. According to Rapoport, the deal would send Romo to Washington while the Cowboys get draft picks in return. Furthermore, Cousins will end up with the 49ers — his preferred destination, according to sources.
This deal is definitely unprecedented if it really happens. However, the question is, will the Cowboys really trade Romo to their division rivals? They will have to play each division opponent twice in the regular season. And what if they meet again in the playoffs? Do they really want to help the Redskins get better? That seems highly unlikely.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed the rumors at the scouting combine and he told reporters there was nothing factual about the rumored three-team trade.
"Haven't had that discussion with anyone, most of all Romo. And so any of these things that you might see that represents interest or looks like it will be a fit or those kinds of things, all of those have no basis at this point other than just a thought of the different teams or different people that are involved and I wouldn't have any consideration or comment or speculate on what might fit because I don't think that anyone has that feeling at this particular point, the timing," Jones said, according to Star-Telegram.
Well, some people has suggested that Jones might be keeping things under wraps for now, but Mike Florio of NBC Sports believes that the potential trade was merely a speculation.
A three-team trade will certainly grab the headlines, but for now, there is nothing concrete to back it up.
