Dallas Cowboys NFL Trade Rumors: Cowboys Reportedly Interested in Josh McCown
With Tony Romo likely on the move, the Dallas Cowboys will have to look for a new backup quarterback. Well, the search didn't take long and they may have found the right man for the job already.
Brandon George of the Dallas Sports News has reported that the Cowboys are interested in signing former Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown, and ESPN's Ed Werder also said there is mutual interest between the Cowboys and McCown.
ESPN's Todd Archer has pointed out that this wasn't the first time the Cowboys were linked with McCown. When Kellen Moore broke his ankle during training camp last season, McCown's name was mentioned as a possible replacement. However, Cleveland's was reportedly asking for a second-round pick in return for the quarterback, so the Cowboys decided to back away.

McCown was released by the Browns on Feb. 7, and four or five teams have reached out to him since he became a free agent. He will turn 38 in July and he has played for 10 teams in his career as a pro.
McCown has been a solid backup quarterback throughout his career, but NBC Sports Radio host Newy Scruggs doesn't believe the quarterback's going to make much of an impact with the team.
"Josh McCown is better than Mark Sanchez. He is better than Kellen Moore. But that should not give Cowboys fans any comfort. He is a journeyman backup who has never been a difference maker when given chances to play," Scruggs stated during a live chat. "So, don't get giddy if Josh McCown comes to back up Dak Prescott and has to start games," he continued.
McCown should be able to hold his own if he joins the Cowboys. Of course, any deal involving McCown will have to wait until Romo's situation with the team is resolved. The team is reportedly going to release Romo "within the next two weeks."
