Both teams are vying for a playoff spot but both also have a host of on the field and off the field issues they are dealing with. These two highly talented teams have potential to make a real impact in the postseason but must overcome their respective challenges first.
The Cowboys come into this game with a record of 7-6 and are just a game out from the New York Giants at the top of the NFC East on 8-5. The Washington Redskins join the three horse race for the divisional title and are also on 7-6 with the Cowboys. With just three weeks to go of the regular season it is still all to play for in the NFC East. Especially with the Giants traveling to Atlanta to face the high flying Falcons, any slip up there for New York would open the door for both the Cowboys and the Redskins to level things at the top of the division going into the final two weeks.
The Cowboys must first focus on winning this game. If they are to do so they will have to do it with Dez Bryant's broken finger. It is uncertain whether Bryant can still catch with the injury, but if he can perform today it would be a big boost for Dallas, and would give quarterback Tony Romo his main hitman back.
Bryant has received 75 throws for 1,028 yards this season for nine touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the Steelers are also on 7-6 coming into this game and are fighting to keep their postseason dreams alive. The Steelers have struggled recently, and have performed poorly on the road for much of the season. They will be desperate to change that and claim a win here in Dallas, although many are concerned that star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is still not back to full fitness.
Roethlisberger has been a big player all season long for the Steelers and losing him to injury in the back end of the season has definitely disrupted their groove. He has 231 completed throws from 358 attempts so far this season for 2,572 yards and 20 touchdowns.
In recent weeks the Steelers have fallen to the Cleveland Browns as well as the San Diego Chargers, and those results have seriously undermined the team's push for the playoffs. Even though all is not lost yet, if they continue with their shady form then Pittsburgh could let the playoff spot that many had them penned in for just a month ago, snatched away from their grasp.
