Dancing with the Stars 2014 Season 18 Finale Results, Meryl Davis Winner, Amy Purdy, Candace Cameron Bure Named Runners-Up
"Dancing with the Stars" season 18 came to a close on Tuesday night with an action-packed finale that named Meryl Davis and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy the champions.
Tuesday's championship narrowed the competition down to just three couples; Amy Purdy and her partner Derek Hough; Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas; and Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Fans eagerly awaited the final moments of the show when the season 18 champion was crowned after ten weeks of competition. While Candace Cameron Bure received third place, Amy Purdy got second, and Meryl Davis was crowned champion.
Before the winner announcement, the finale kicked off with all 12 cast members of season 18 returning to the ballroom for an exciting opening number. Previously eliminated celebrity contestants of the season included Nene Leakes, Danica McKellar, Cody Simpson, Billy Dee Williams, and Charlie White among many others who each returned alongside their respective "DWTS" professional dancers during the finale.
Tuesday also saw the first ever dance between Olympic partners Meryl David and Charlie White, as well as the three remaining couples performing a new routine as part of the "24 Hour Fusion Challenge." Musical guests during the finale included "DWTS" season 17 contestant Amber Riley as well as Christina Perri, Iggy Azalea, and Ariana Grande.
Also during the two-hour finale, Team Loca performed live to "Livin' La Vida Loca," which is the performance cancelled during Latin Night when Amy Purdy was injured. Ahead of the show, Purdy updated her Twitter followers on her feelings about the finale.
"Last moment in the dance studio together, this journey has been more than I could ever describe or have ever anticipated," she wrote. "@derekhough will forever hold a chunk of my heart. Thank you for being my partner, my wall, mentor, coach and friend. See you tomorrow, it's not over yet! #dwts #purdyhough"
Purdy was not the only contestant growing emotional ahead of the season finale. Cheryl Davis tweeted "I have so very much to be grateful for" ahead of the championship.
"Hard to believe this journey is coming to an end," the ice skater added. "To have shared this experience with @maksimc has been a true privilege. Thank you all for the support!"
"DWTS" season 19 is expected to kick off in the fall.
