Amy Purdy 'DWTS' Injury Update: Cast Member Requesting 'Positive Healing Thoughts'
Amy Purdy was rushed to the hospital following her performance on Monday night's "Dancing with the Stars," and now, the Paralympic snowboarder is requesting support from fans.
"So, looks like I have a rib out of place and my muscles are in spasm," the 34-year-old athlete posted to Twitter on Tuesday. "I am being proactive in healing up so I can continue this journey."
Purdy and her professional dance partner Derek Hough hit the ballroom during "Latin Night" with a rumba on Monday. However, immediately after earning nine out of ten points from all four judges, Purdy was sent into fits of pain in her back.
"Right after judging, I turned my head and my back cracked and it just seized up," Purdy told "DWTS" co-host Erin Andrews backstage on Monday. "Everything's really painful right now. It's hard to breathe."
Because of the injury, Purdy and Hough were forced to miss the team dance during Monday's show.
"We have our team dance and I feel so bad because I love our dance," she said. "We all had so much fun putting it together and we were killing it together."
Purdy later explained that she "overworked" the right side of her back during the week's rehearsals for Latin Night.
"The hospital took X-rays and everything looks good, but a rib is out of place and the muscles are in spasm," she explained to People on Tuesday. "I was sore yesterday and got a massage before the show and felt better."
Furthermore, the double amputee Paralympian said she is "icing all day, taking anti-inflammatories and working with a sports doctor to try to heal quickly so I can learn this week's dances."
"DWTS" airs on ABC Mondays at 8 p.m. EST.
