Daniel Bruhl Confirmed to Play Villain Baron Zemo in 'Captain America: Civil War'
Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War's" villain has just been revealed in the person of actor Daniel Bruhl, who will be playing Baron Zemo in the movie.
Spanish-German actor Daniel Bruhl has confirmed he will be playing the hooded villain, Baron Zemo in the 13th installment of Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Captain America: Civil War" scheduled to be released in theaters May 6, 2016.
The 36-year-old actor, who recently starred in "The Face of an Angel," based on the real-life story of accused and acquitted murderer, Amanda Knox, has also had roles in "Rush," and "Inglorious Basterds."
Earlier on, rumors had surfaced Bruhl would be playing a character in the upcoming movie, which he eventually confirmed in an interview with British publication The Independent.
Baron Zemo's character was originally seen in "The Avengers #4" in 1964, and appeared as Captain America's nemesis in "Captain America #168 in 1973. The Baron, whose real name is Dr. Heinrich Zemo, was one of the Nazi Party's top scientists known for his brilliant genius and sadistic bent.
After creating weapons of mass destruction, including a death ray cannon that killed hundreds of his innocent countrymen, Zemo became a reviled fugitive and took to wearing a reddish-pink hood to maintain his anonymity. The hood became a permanent fixture when his latest invention, an extremely potent adhesive, poured into his face after Captain America threw his shield into a vat of the material, permanently attaching the hood to Zemo's head.
The storyline of "Captain America: Civil War" will center on a growing divide between superheroes over an act passed by the government requiring people with superhuman powers to register themselves in order to regulate and monitor their activity.
How large a role Bruhl's Baron Zemo will have in the film has not yet been announced.
