Daniel Cormier Next Fight Rumors: 'DC' not willing to discuss next fight until the coming year

Current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will not be thinking about fighting any time soon.

"DC" has already fought three times in 2015: against former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in January at UFC 182, against Anthony "Rumble" Johnson at UFC 187 in May, where he won the 205-pound title belt, and against Alexander Gustafsson last month at UFC 192, marking his first successful title defense.

In an interview with FOX Sports, Cormier says he would want to take a brief break for the rest of the year, before getting back into discussions about his next fight.

"I don't want to start a fight camp right now. "I want to relax through the holidays with my family and when I told that to Dana and [UFC CEO] Lorenzo Fertitta, they were very open about it."

"They said 'get through your holiday and then we'll see what happens,'" he continued. "They said 'it's awesome DC, you had a great year, now you can get through your holiday and see what happens next."

At the age of 36, Cormier has managed to climb to the top of his division. While he is aware that mixed martial arts is a young man's game and that he is contending with young lions, he is also aware about what he needs to do in order to stay on top.

"I needed it. I'm 36 fighting these young guys and it's tough," Cormier said. "I fought the best this division has to offer all over the span of 10 months. I need a break and I'm going to take it."

In late October, Jon Jones was reinstated back in the UFC, after serving an indefinite suspension for a hit-and-run accident he was involved in last April.

In a May report by MMA Fighting, UFC president Dana White promised that Jones would be getting an immediate title shot upon his return, but no final confirmation has been made.
