Daniel Cormier Vs. Jon Jones Fight News: 'DC' Insists Rematch With Jones Should Be On His Terms

Reigning UFC light heavyweight king Daniel Cormier has exercised his rights as the current champion by declaring that his rematch against former title-holder Jon Jones should be on his terms.

Since Jones has been reinstated in the UFC in November, the 28-year old former champion has targeted April 23rd of 2016 as his comeback date. And given UFC president Dana White's previous declaration of giving "Bones" an immediate title shot upon his return, the said date could very well be the rematch date.

The targeted venue of the bout is at the Madison Square Garden in New York, assuming that the UFC can end its legalization battle with the state by then. Jones is a native of Rochester, New York. Apparently, Jones statements have irked Cormier as the champion.

In his recent appearance on The MMA Hour show, "DC" reiterated his position as the division's top dog, noting that he should be the one doing the picking of the fight date.

"I've given [the UFC] a couple dates I'd be willing to look at. Maybe you guys will know something soon," Cormier said. "I'm going to make my decision as the champion sooner rather than later. Just put it like that."

In his previous tell-all interview with veteran journalist Ariel Helwani, Jones mentioned Cormier's reluctance to hold the fight at the Garden. Cormier did declare that having the fight at the said venue would not be a problem for him, but again reiterated that the decision should be coming from him as the current title holder.

"Obviously, like I said, for historic purposes it would be cool to fight in Madison Square Garden," Cormier says at The MMA Hour show. "But we don't want to really give this guy what he wants. Yeah, yeah. I guess I'll think about April 23."
