'Dark Souls 3' DLC News: 'The Ringed City' DLC Now Out; Will It Be the Last?
"The Ringed City" downloadable content (DLC) marks the end of FromSoftware's post-launch support for its hit game, "Dark Souls 3."
The game only received two expansions, and it appears that these are the only ones players will ever get with FromSoftware intent on moving on from the franchise.
In an interview with Weekly Famitsu (translated by Gematsu), "Dark Souls 3" director and FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki was adamant in saying that "The Ringed City" is the final DLC for the game.
However, he suggested that they are not completely closing their doors on the franchise. "As I've said from the beginning, there are no further developments planned at the moment, at least," he emphasized.
In an interview with Polygon last year, Miyazaki had the same stance, saying that "it's time to move away from the Dark Souls franchise."
He also said that they are "not completely denying the possibility of bringing back the franchise in the future." However, should this happen, it will be in the form of remastered versions rather than new "Dark Souls 3" DLCs.
"There could be someone else in my company who wants to work on new installments. But we believe that the series will end after the two DLC," Miyazaki went on to say.
Although "The Ringed City" appears to be the final "Dark Souls 3" material that fans will get, many critics believe From Software did a good job at it.
Kotaku said that it is a fitting end to the game and to the franchise as a whole and had much better elements to offer than the first DLC, "Ashes of Ariandel." The description of the DLC reads:
"Journey to the world's end to search for the Ringed City and encounter new lands, new bosses, new enemies with new armor, magic and items. Experience the epic final chapter of a dark world that could only be created by the mind of Hidetaka Miyazaki.
A New World. One Last Journey."
