Hailed as one of the best role-playing games of 2016, "Darkest Dungeon" was first released in January last year for the Microsoft PC and OS X and easily earned positive reviews from gamers and critics alike.

Versions for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) and Linux were launched shortly after, but the game was most recently ported to the iOS last August.

The game is unique in the sense that it explores the "psychological stresses of adventuring" instead of just basking in the idea of it as what many games focus on.

Per the official description, this is what "Darkest Dungeon" is all about:

Recruit, train, and lead a team of flawed heroes against unimaginable horrors, stress, famine, disease, and the ever-encroaching dark. Can you keep your heroes together when all hope is lost?

"Darkest Dungeon" is more than just taking out diabolical monsters. With its Affliction System, the number one enemy players will deal with is the ultimate beast of all — stress.

Gamers will be tasked to tackle head on "paranoia, masochism, fear, irrationality and a host of gameplay-meaningful quirks." The game will provide a good place to just chill in the form of the Tavern or the Abbey. In this spirit, the title not only celebrates successes but also failures.

Part of the appeal of "Darkest Dungeon" is its classic RPG elements such as character permadeath, procedural dungeons, and incredible replay. The game allows players to experience all that in hand-drawn gothic crowquill art style.
