David Arquette Has Bar Mitzvah, Divorces Courtney Cox
David Arquette has made several headlines this week both by celebrating his bar mitzvah ceremony and filing for a divorce from his longtime estranged wife Courtney Cox.
The 40-year-old actor visited Israel as a segment for his travel show. While at the Western Wall, the holiest place for Jews to pray, Arquette completed the Jewish rite of passage Monday.
Typically celebrated at age 13, Arquette posted a message following the ceremony.
"I had my Bar Mitzvah today at the wall," wrote the actor. "Finally I'm a man."
Arquette is well known for his roles in "Never Been Kissed" and "Scream," where he starred alongside Cox. Perhaps it was his religious rite of passage that led him to initiate the final proceedings of his divorce this week.
Wed 13 years ago, Arquette and Cox announced their "trial separation" in 2010.
"The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage," said the couple in a joint statement at the time. "We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply. As we go through this process we are determined to use kindness and understanding to get through this together."
Days later, Arquette admitted on Howard Stern's radio show that the divorce was Cox's suggestion.
After almost two years of separation, the former lovebirds will move forward with their divorce.
Tuesday, 13 years to the date after the couple's marriage ceremony, Arquette cited "irreconcilable differences" during the divorce filing, reported TMZ. Additionally, the actor is requesting joint custody for he and Cox's daughter Coco, whose eighth birthday is June 13.
Cox, 47, and Arquette will likely see amicable divorce proceedings, and have been spotted out together on a few occasions, including on the set of "Dancing With the Stars" while Arquette was a cast member last year.
