David Beckham Snubbed at Olympics, But Will Appear in Opening Ceremonies
David Beckham has confirmed that he will play a significant role in this year's Olympic opening ceremonies on Friday.
Although he was controversially rejected from the British Olympic soccer team, the international sports star will partake in welcoming the numerous Olympic athletes this week.
It is unclear what role Beckham will play furring Friday's ceremony to officially open the Olypmics, but the 37-year-old said he would play a cameo, according to CNN World Sport.

"I'm not allowed [to say]," said the L.A. Galaxy midfielder, according to CNN. "But it's exciting, I'm excited to be part of such a huge occasion for our country and for everybody involved in these Games."
Beckham played an essential role in earning London the bid in 2005 to host the Games. He noted that his role did not have to do with children, animals, or footballs, but when asked if a flame would be involved, he replied: "I think I might have one."
"It's exciting to have the Olympic Games in the East End of London and for myself to be part of that, I'm very honored," added the London native.
Ahead of the Olympic torch's 70-day tour around the U.K., Beckham was on hand to welcome it to the English capital from Athens. When asked to light the flame, Beckham declined, explaining that someone who has competed at the Games should perform the honor.
The 2012 Olympics are expected to draw thousands as well as be watched by millions of people around the globe. The Games will take place from July 17 to Aug. 12.
Despite his disappointment at being passed over by the British Olympic team, Beckham expressed the attitude of a truly good sport.
"Everyone knows how much playing for my country has always meant to me, so I would have been honored to have been part of this unique Team GB squad," said the soccer star last month in a statement to the Associated Press.
"Naturally I am very disappointed, but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me," continued Beckham, who is married to ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham.
"And like everyone, I will be hopping they can win the gold," he added.
