Day Care Worker Tapes Toddler for Nap Time (VIDEO)

Parents waited four months to report that a nursery worker had taped their 18-month old child down to a matt during nap time. Some report that the incidents details have just come to light, but many remain skeptical.

Last Wednesday, two Kentucky parents came forward to report that their 18-month old child had been taped to a matt during nap time. The nursery worker, 20-year-old Alicia Lyons, worked for Mustard Seeds Child Care in Ludlow. Police arrested her Thursday.

Ludlow police chief Wayne Turner said the incident happened in October when the child was about 18 months old. The child's parent told police Wednesday, Turner said.

Police said Lyons and another employee had duct taped the child to a sleeping mat to get him to go to sleep. The day care center has responded by firing Lyons from her job, as is considering the event an isolated incident. The center has three locations has stated that it will now purchase video camera equipment to prevent future incident.

According to Local 12 News, Lyons had been an employee at daycare facility since Aug. 18, 2011 and the day care says she passed all background checks required under state law. Her alleged action violates the company's written policy regarding abuse and neglect, which all employees are required to sign upon being hired.

Some remain unconvinced by the story. Users on the 12 News site, remained skeptical. "I 'd be curious to know if she was working alone with too many kids to watch, on the day in question. If that's so, responsibility must also go to the daycare center for not having adequate employees to watch the children properly. There's too much missing info on this story," Lee62 wrote.

"There's certainly more to this story. Sensationalism is what I call this. Was this young woman playing around with this child? Certainly could have been. Where were all the other day care workers when this was going on?" Chenoosesmom asked.

"I think the person who made these accusations needs to see what she has done. Why didn't she tell about it when it happened, not when she heard someone else talking about it some time later."

Other users cared less about the details surrounding the story, given the facts at hand. "We obviously don't have the whole story on this yet but anytime you have "duct-tape" and "18 month old baby" in the same sentence its bad," Max 2244 wrote.
