'Death Stranding' Release Date, News: Hideo Kojima Collaborates With 'Horizon: Zero Dawn' Team for Game Engine

Ever since Hideo Kojima, the famed creator of the "Metal Gear Solid" series, announced his return to the gaming scene in Sony's Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2016, fans have been getting chills and goosebumps all over. It appears that the crowd has every reason to be, as his new game "Death Stranding" promises to be a gaming experience like no other.

Just how mind-blowing is the game going to be? In an interview with PlayStation Australia's content services manager Adam Renardson, Kojima explains that engine-wise, the project is going to be the offspring of a harmonious merging of both western and eastern technologies — between Kojima Productions and "Horizon: Zero Dawn" developer, Guerrilla Games.

Kojima mentioned that the work on "Horizon: Zero Dawn" is something he's in awe of, and when he got in touch with Guerilla Games, they readily provided him a USB dongle which had the source code for the engine, and this was despite the fact they didn't have any contract yet during that time.

"There was one condition though, that Kojima Productions doesn't just use the engine, but that we develop the engine together with Guerrilla Games, that it should be a collaborative effort," Kojima said. After working together to develop it, they coined the new engine "Decima," which represents their joint accomplishment.

This being said, one can expect that the visuals and authenticity of Kojima's "Death Stranding" are going to be out of this world. It is bound to be yet another masterpiece and is certainly something worth waiting for.

To give an idea as to what the game is without giving away a lot, Kojima just mentioned that the title is an open-world action game, but that it is unique in the sense that it does not prioritize the usual weapon of choice — guns. That being said, it will be interesting to see how this pans out.

It can be recalled that Kojima told BBC Newsbeat in a separate interview that it will be an easy game to immerse one's self into, and as it gets deeper, the players will realize what a different experience it is. Judging from the most current information, Kojima is really heading toward that creative direction.
