'Deep Rock Galactic' Announces Final Open Alpha Weekend Starting Nov. 9

"Deep Rock Galactic" will be having its last Open Alpha test launch next weekend. The randomly-generated mix of exploration game and first-person shooter will be open for preview testing via Steam from Thursday, Nov. 9, until Sunday, Nov. 12.

The registration page is currently open, and Ghost Ship Games are reserving slots for those who sign up before Monday, Nov. 6. Fans who have been eagerly following the development of this unique game will do well to register before their Alpha slot becomes subject to availability next week.

Three co-op players take on the role of dwarven miners, as they enter a procedurally generated cave in the hostile planet Hoxxes IV, in the Outer Rim systems. The team has two objectives, one of which is to take back a sizable haul of the minerals randomly scattered about, a premise that will be familiar to "Minecraft" and "Dwarf Fortress" players.

The other objective, of course, is to survive the hostile natives, mostly in the form of bugs that have to be blasted away, according to Videogamer.

Ghost Ship Games, the game development studio behind this first-person shooter, lays it on straight as they described Hoxxes IV. "This is an ugly planet. A bug planet. A planet of things like corrosive worms that would like nothing better than to take up residence in your sinus cavities," the studio wrote in their summary.

After this Alpha test run, the PC version of "Deep Rock Galactic" is moving on to Steam Early Access, while the console version heads on to the Xbox Game Preview program by 2018.

The video below shows the Open Alpha Teaser for "Deep Rock Galactic," as Ghost Ship Games invite players to sign up before Monday, Nov. 6, for their Steam or Xbox Live keys. Next weekend will be the game's final Open Alpha before they launch for early access on PC and console next year.
