Demi Lovato and Promoters Claim: They 'Gave Me Drugs and Alcohol'
Former Disney star Demi Lovato has had to face a long recovery after fighting an eating disorder and drug habit. The young star recently spoke about her past issues and revealed that many times others had helped the problems come about.
The young actress got her start as a young child in "Barney and Friends" before becoming a Disney star and appearing in "Camp Rock" and "The Princess Protection Program." The 19-year-old was forced to take a step away from the big screen however, after reports surfaced claiming she was suffering from an eating disorder.
New reports have suggested that the actress and singer not only had an eating disorder, but was also struggling with drugs that she claims were given to her by club promoters.
When asked about the use of cocaine, Lovato replied that she often felt the need to get a jolt after giving a large performance.
"I would come off stage in front of 18,000 people and suddenly be alone in a hotel room. I'd come crashing down and would try to find a way to recreate that feeling, to stay 'up'," Lovato told Fabulous, a U.K.-based magazine.
She also admitted that her drug problem was largely started by club promoters who would use illegal substances in order to lure her into coming back to their club.
"Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs. They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there. They were basically kissing my a--," Lovato said. "I thought they were my friends. I thought I was having fun."
Lovato received treatment for bulimia, depression and self-mutilation in 2011. While the teen star has revealed that she is now back on track, she also admitted that she was not yet ready to return to the big screen citing insecurity over her weight.
