Demi Lovato recently credited her longtime partner, Wilmer Valderrama, for saving her life in a heartfelt post marking her third year sober.

The former Disney star and recovering alcoholic took to social networking site Instagram on Sunday to thank her actor boyfriend for supporting her through her struggles. She described Valderrama as having an "incredible soul."

"I wish I could put into words how grateful I am for this man right here," Lovato wrote, alongside a kissing photo of the couple. "He's loved me the way I never thought I deserved to be loved, and with this day marking my third year sober. ... After sharing my ups, putting up with my downs and supporting my recovery ... he still never takes credit. And I want the world to know how incredible his soul is. I really wouldn't be alive today without him. I love you Wilmer."

The heartwarming post comes one month after the pop star, who "grew up Christian" and "believes in God," honored Christ on twitter while marking three years sober.

"3 years sober next month. ... Hell yeah!!! God is so good. My best friend created the universe and still takes time to love me. #soblessed," she tweeted to her 27 million followers last month.

In the past, the 22-year-old "Heart Attack" singer, has been open about her battle with addiction and struggle with body image.

"Some people can smoke and drink recreationally," Lovato told the UK's Daily Mirror in 2013. "I'm not one of those people. If I do that, it will spiral out of control very quickly. I've lost the privilege of being able to drink responsibly."

She once battled bulimia, struggled with self-harm and in 2011 she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

"I almost went back to rehab for my eating disorder last summer," she told Fitness magazine. "I was obsessing over food and terrified of it at the same time. Wilmer noticed and called me out on it, which was a relief."

Lovato has previously hailed pop singer Beyonce as being one of her female role models.
