Demi Moore 'Embarrassed' of Public Health Scare, Felt Pressure to be Young
'She needed reassurance that she was hot and skinny'
Demi Moore suffered from many insecurities about her weight and age prior to her meltdown last week, friends of the actress told People magazine.
"She needed reassurance all the time that she was hot and sexy," a source told People. "As Demi got older, she convinced herself that she needed to stay young and skinny to remain attractive to her husband."
Last November, Moore, 49, released a statement announcing she would split from her husband Ashton Kutcher, 33, following rumors of infidelity.
"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton. As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life," Moore said.
But the actress, lauded for her stunning good looks and raspy voice in the 1990s, has been unhappy for quite some time now.
"If anyone was uncomfortable with the age difference, it was Demi, not Ashton," a friend of Kutcher's told the People. "She drove him crazy after a while with questions and doubts."
According to another source to the gossip magazine, Moore often sought affirmation by "hanging around young people."
The actress made her insecurities public in a post break-up interview with Harper's Bazaar that made the February issue.
"What scares me is that I'm going to ultimately find out at the end of my life that I'm really not lovable, that I'm not worthy of being loved. That there's something fundamentally wrong with me," Moore lamented on her troubled love life.
She also acknowledged having body issues, but claimed to have conquered them.
"I sit today in a place of greater acceptance of my body and that includes not just my weight but all of the things that come with your changing body as you as age to now experiencing my body as extremely thin," Moore said to Harper's. "Thin in a way that I never imagined somebody would be saying to me, 'you're too thin, and you don't look good,"' the mother of three added.
Moore was taken to a Los Angeles hospital on Jan. 23 after she suffered from seizures and convulsions. The star reportedly inhaled an excessive amount of nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas.
"Ego-wise, this is the worst that could happen to Demi, because she's such a private person," a source told People. "She's embarrassed."
