'Deeply disturbed': Democrats, Republicans react to second Trump assassination attempt
Tim Walz
Harris' vice presidential running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, said in a Sunday statement that he and his wife are glad to hear that former President Trump is safe.
"Violence has no place in our country," Walz stated. "It's not who we are as a nation."
Routh, the suspect in the second assassination attempt, had his first court appearance on Monday. The 58-year-old man appeared to laugh and smile several times before the hearing began, Fox News reports.
Routh's formal arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 30. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession and receipt of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. He made his initial appearance today before Magistrate Judge Ryon M. McCabe in the federal courthouse in West Palm Beach.
