Denise Richards Adopts Puppy in Sandy Aftermath
Denise Richards has added a new puppy to her family in the wake of Hurricane Sandy after visiting an animal shelter in New York.
The 41-year-old actress toured devastated areas in New York City and Long Island that had been in Sandy's path, including a North Shore Animal League America shelter on Saturday.
An animal lover and mother to three daughters, the actress decided to not only urge others to take in the animals in need, but brought one home herself.
"Heading to an animal shelter, to help out," Richards wrote on Twitter Saturday. "Over 600 rescued from the hurricane. My girls are coming to help too."
According to subsequent reports, Richards and her daughters Sam; 8, Lola; 7, and Eloise; 2, made a strong connection with one of the canines in the shelter.
"During their visit Denise and her family fell in love with Tara the Labrador Mutt-i-gree puppy and welcomed her into their home," a message on the North Shore Animal League's Facebook read.
Richards shares daughters Sam and Lola with actor Charlie Sheen. The actress adopted her third child Eloise in 2011.
The details about Richard's new pet remain largely unknown, but the actress did post on Twitter that the dog was male.
"The kids & I found the best dog groomer in nyc," Richards later added to the social media site. "We got our little guy washed & fluffed, best accessories too… thank you! @theDOGstore"
During the time of superstorm Sandy in late October, the actress updated her fans about her surroundings.
"NYC looks very eerie… restaurants are closed & stores closed early," wrote Richards. "Very desolate outside.. our production shut down early today."
Richards had spent several days in New York City earlier this month filming a pilot for an unspecified project.
"Last day of filming our pilot," the actress revealed on Twitter Saturday. "Hoping it gets picked up, I love working with everyone."
