Denver Broncos CB Aqib Talib Gets Shot on the Leg at Dallas Club
The NFL player has left the hospital and is now recovering.
NFL player Aqib Talib was shot on his leg in a Dallas nightclub, causing minor injuries to the 30-year-old athlete.
The Denver Broncos cornerback sustained a gunshot wound on his right leg, ESPN reported. The bullet pierced through his leg but did not affect any ligaments nor arteries. He was taken to the Medical City Dallas and had stitches for the wound.
According to Dallas Morning News, a fight ensued inside the V Live Club club and ended up with a customer shooting Talib at around 2:45 a.m. on Sunday. Another person, who was outside the club, was also reportedly injured when the fight continued outside the premises of the strip club.
Talib did not undergo any surgery because his wound was not that serious. His team believes that the shooting incident will not, in any way, affect his participation in the upcoming games of the Broncos as they hope to bag another Super Bowl title.
Coloradoan, however, noted that the cornerback will not be able to join the Broncos' for their scheduler at the White House where they will be recognized for winning the previous Super Bowl. It will be frustrating for the Talib since he previously expressed his excitement to see President Barack Obama.
"I'm looking forward to seeing how that looks," Talib said last week. "Meet Obama before he get up out (of there). Something I've never done before."
The Broncos reiterated that he is now fine and doing well. They noted that he is OK and expected to make a full recovery. The team is also hoping that he will be able to join their minicamp and practices which start this Tuesday until next month.
An update from NBC Sports said that the cornerback has already been released from the hospital. He was discharged from the emergency room, where he was treated for his injury.
This is not the first time that Talib made the headlines because of issues like this. ESPN said he was arrested and charged with battery when he assaulted a taxi driver seven years ago. He was also suspended by the league for his first 2010 season game due to the incident.
A year after, he was indicted for an aggravated assault charge for hitting the boyfriend of his sister with a pistol. The case, was however dismissed due to lack of evidence. Talib and his brother were also invited for questioning last year regarding an assault case also at a Dallas nightclub.
