Jeter to Make MLB History

The anticipation of Derek Jeter’s 3,000th hit has caused Yankee ticket prices to rise 103 percent since last week. At 2,9997 hits, Jeter is expected to reach his goal by this weekend.

When Jeter accomplishes this feat, he will be the 28th major league baseball player to do so. This weekend, the Tampa Bay Rays will visit the Yankee Stadium and many baseball fans have paid handsomely to watch this happen.

Jesse Lawrence, founder and CEO of TiqIQ, told the New York Daily News that average ticket prices for Friday’s game were $195.

"The market is betting heavily on (Friday) night," Lawrence said. "One hundred percent increase is pretty significant in a period of a week. That's a major increase."

Joe Girardi, Yankees manger, has noticed the large amount of pressure on the all-star.

"We want to get it over with," Girardi said. "I know he wants to get through it so he can just be Derek again. You don't want it to carry over to the All-Star break."

At one point, the manager even considered benching his team captain. Girardi changed his mind after realizing Jeter may need to play.

“What I realized is, none of us know what it's like to be close to 3,000 hits," Girardi said. "We don't know what's going through his mind. I just started thinking, 'You know, maybe it's a lot worse if you're sitting around thinking about it.'"

Although he understands the magnitude of knocking down ball number 3,000 in his career, Jeter is still putting his energies into winning games.

"I'm just trying to get hits," Jeter said. "It's not like I'm trying to do anything differently. It'd be different if I was trying to hit home runs or something like that. In that sense, everything is pretty much the same."
