Derek Medina, Man Who Shot Wife, Put Photo of Corpse on Facebook; Said She Attacked Him With Towels, Shoes, Mascara (Video)
A man who unveiled a real-life horror show on social media in August by shooting his wife multiple times then posting her corpse on Facebook, said he acted in self-defense because his wife had attacked him with missiles like towels, mascara, creams and shoes during an argument.
In an August video released by prosecutors last Friday, according to a CNN report, Derek Medina, 31, who is expected in court for a bail hearing on Tuesday, declared he wasn't guilty of murder because he was only defending himself. Surveillance video also captures portions of the confrontation between Medina and his wife in their home.
"I'm not a killer," said Medina, who has pleaded not guilty to second degree murder. "I do not feel that I'm guilty and I feel like this was self-defense."

In the video, Medina, reportedly a former amateur boxer with a 25-0 record, said he and his now deceased wife, Jennifer Alonso, 27, were arguing in their bedroom when "she started throwing stuff, objects, toward me," like towels, mascara, creams, boxes and shoes.
"Anything in the room she could throw at me," said Medina.
According to a Miami-Dade Police Department transcript that accompanied the video, Medina said he threatened his wife with a gun to get her to stop throwing missiles at him. He said when he put the gun away, his wife told him she was leaving him and rattled off a series of punches.
He said he then grabbed the gun again and she pulled a knife, which he wrestled from her and put in a drawer.
"She just started throwing punches like crazy. She was like really attacking me," he told police. "Like I was getting out of the way and got hit in the arm and she was like going for my temple."
He said during the fight, his wife also threatened to kill him and it escalated and he shot her "six to eight times."
Medina then reportedly spilled his dead along with a photo of his wife's corpse in a Facebook post saying: "Im going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys take care Facebook people you will see me in the news." The picture was online for about five hours.
A Miami Herald report notes that Medina was expected in court for an all-day bail hearing on Tuesday. Prosecutors will reportedly try to persuade Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Yvonne Colodny to keep Medina in jail as he awaits trial.
