Descendants of the Sun's Song Joong Ki News: Receives Korean Producer Awards' Best Performer Award

"Descendants of the Sun" star Song Joong Ki is set to attend the 2017 Korean Producer Awards to receive his Best Performer Award. The 31-year-old actor played Captain Yoo Si Jin in KBS' hit romantic drama series.

Reports about Joong Ki attending the event came out on Monday, March 13. The male Hallyu star will reportedly receive the highest award to be conferred by the Korean Producers and Directors' Association, the organizer of the annual Korean Producer Awards that acknowledges performers, TV and radio producers, as well as production crew for their valuable contributions to the industry.

Last year, actor Ji Sung bagged the highest award for his role in the MBC series "Kill Me, Heal Me." This year, the award goes to Joong Ki, who has had a number of lucrative projects since he was released from the military in 2015.

After his military service, Joong Ki took "Descendants of the Sun" as his major comeback drama series. The TV series became a success not just in Korea and Asia but also in America and several parts of Europe. After the drama, he embarked on a series of Asian tours where he had the chance to meet his fans across the continent.

Joong Ki's next project is "Battleship Island," which has just wrapped up production. Directed by Ryoo Seung Wan, the film will also feature Hwang Jung Min and So Ji Sub. In the movie, Joong Ki will play the role of a soldier who sneaked into an island to save one of his comrades.

Meanwhile, talks about "Descendants of the Sun" season 2 continue to surface despite the lack of official updates from its creators. According to reports, the sequel of the hit drama will feature Joong Ki and his co-star from season 1, Song Hye Kyo, and will revolve around their life after marriage.
