'Designated Survivor' Season 1 Episode 16: President Kirkman Presents First Bill; Wells, Ritter Team Up Against Impending Threat
President Kirkman's (Kiefer Sutherland) call for a reset on his first 100 days of governance may have started out on the right foot, but the conspiracy threatening his governance could rear its ugly head again soon as ABC's political drama series "Designated Survivor" inches closer to its season 1 finale. Can the president survive the next explosive attack on America?
This week's episode ended with a huge teaser on what could potentially go down in the final few episodes of "Designated Survivor" season 1. A flash drive that FBI Agent Wells (Maggie Q) and former Deputy Director Atwood (Malik Yoba) recovered from the dead body of a woman named Matheson (Mariana Klaveno) showed virtual simulations of famous American landmarks — the Statue of Liberty, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Hoover Dam — blowing up in pieces.
The conspirators are not done yet, and what they have planned could really shake America off its hinges. Can Kirkman and his staff keep up the fight, or will this impending threat be the final straw that takes the American government apart?
According to the official synopsis for next week's episode titled "Party Lines," Wells turns to Secret Service Agent Ritter (LaMonica Garrett) with her newfound information. The synopsis, however, does not say what the two of them will do about it, especially now that Kirkman is hard-pressed to pass his first bill. Will they tell the president about the new alarming threat looming over the nation, or will they choose take matters into their own hands and deal with the terrorist issue themselves?
The official trailer seems to hint that they will go out on the field together to investigate the matter further, just as Kirkman does all necessary steps to pass his gun control bill. He may even have to forge an unlikely alliance along the way. And since his former chief of staff, Aaron (Adan Canto), is now working for Speaker Hookstraten (Virginia Madsen), will Kirkman's unlikely alliance turn out to be the speaker of the House of Representatives?
"Designated Survivor" season 1 episode 16 airs on Wednesday, April 12 at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
