'Designated Survivor' Season 2 Spoilers, Cast: Showrunner Teases Major Revelation Will Be 'Great,' Talks Hannah's John Le Carre Moments

"Designated Survivor" season 2 will hit the small screen in a couple of weeks and showrunner Keith Eisner is keeping the hype up around the series by teasing the serious bombshell dropping by the end of the first half.

Eisner spoke to TVLine about the big twist taking place in the midseason finale, reiterating Kiefer Sutherland's earlier remark with the same publication that the reveal will "knock the socks off our audience."

However, the showrunner played coy and kept his cards close to his chest as to who and what will be involved in the "Designated Survivor" season 2 shock, but promised that whatever this revelation is, "it's going to be great."

"Designated Survivor" season 2 will follow the transition of Sutherland's character Tom Kirkman from "an outsider to an insider." Eisner promised that "everything people liked about last year we're going to keep" and will just add to it as they tell this story.

Last year, in a great way, was more this "deer caught in headlights," Frank Capra/Mr. Smith Goes to Washington thing, whereas this year is more about President Tom Kirkman's journey from outsider to insider.

As for Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Agent Hannah Wells (Maggie Q), Eisner teased that she will be wrapped up into something "a bit more John Le Carre" as she gets closer to unravelling the conspiracy, which Eisner said will conclude "with a thrilling, action-y conclusion."

"Designated Survivor" season 2 will also zero in on the West Wing and will add a bunch of new characters played by newcomers Zoe McLellan, Paulo Constanzo and Ben Lawson that will be central to the storylines.

Apart from the trio, the new season will also feature Brian McNamara as the father of Chief of Staff Emily Rhodes (Italia Ricci). Just recently, "Parenthood" alum Bonnie Bedelia was recruited for a recurring role as Kirkman's mother-in-law.

"Designated Survivor" season 2 premieres Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
