'Destiny 2' September Release Rumors May Be False (VIDEO)

Despite news emerging that a sequel for "Destiny" is due for release next month, there are indications the sequel is not on the developer's schedule.

The Bungie and High Moon Studios' first person shooter, "Destiny," was released September 2014, and after two DLC's, information came about pointing towards a sequel, "Destiny 2," rumored to be launched in September this year.

According to reports, "Destiny 2" was in development as of November 2014, with game publisher Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg hinting a new game slated to join the "Destiny" universe was currently in progress.

In early August, an alleged second installment called "Destiny 2: The Shattered Sun" was rumored for a September release, together with a third "Destiny" expansion pack to follow May's "House of Wolves" DLC.

With Bungie already having set aside 10 years' worth of "Destiny 1" post-launch support and with a series of expansion releases still ongoing, any upcoming "full game" announcement, such as that hinted by Hirshberg last year, may end up a spinoff of "Destiny 1" instead.

In addition, the rumored sequel supposedly titled "The Shattered Sun," and which pointed at a September release date, was originally sourced from a Reddit "Destiny" thread in July where the poster admitted it was second-hand information, albeit from trusted sources.

The Reddit rumor was also questioned in an article on Forbes.com, which attested Bungie was unlikely to disrupt its continuous DLC bridge with a sequel so soon in the timeline.

What is true, however, is a third expansion, "The Taken King," that is due for release on September 15. The new DLC will shine a spotlight on Crota's father, Oryx as he leads a new race of warriors known as The Taken, to avenge Crota's death.

"Game of Thrones'" Peter Dinklage, who played the voice of Ghost in the game, will be replaced by that of voice actor's Nolan North, better known as Nathan Drake from the "Unchartered" series.

Bungie has not yet released any comment about the rumored "Destiny 1" sequel.
