'Destiny 2' Updates: Details of Upcoming Maintenance and 'Faction Rallies' Event Released
"Destiny 2" developer Bungie has a very busy work week ahead, as they bring down the game's servers for a much-needed maintenance session starting Monday, Sept. 25. After that, a new patch is due for release, as well as the first of the week-long Faction Rallies events starting Tuesday.
The factions of "Destiny 2" are having their own events to rally followers, and precious resources, to their cause. Before this can happen, however, Bungie is preparing to launch a new patch that will fix issues on top of adding new content.
The developer could be also looking to shore up its servers so that they can hold up better to the deluge of players, as they take their online services down on Monday, Sept. 25. This was detailed near the bottom of their latest news update.

The shutdown starts at 9 a.m. EDT, as "Destiny 2" players will be locked out from signing in. Two hours later, lingering online players will be booted out as maintenance work begins. Bungie expects to welcome players to Update 1.0.3 by 3 p.m. EDT, about five hours later. In practice, these maintenance schedules can take longer than expected, as Gamespot notes.
Players rushing in by then can take part in the Faction Rallies, a week-long event that will start on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 5 a.m. EDT. Bungie is quick to note that these are end-game events, and is meant for players who have finished the "Destiny 2" campaign.
As such, only characters who have reached Level 20 and have gained access to the Tower are eligible. They must then pledge their services to a single faction, and a character can only choose one, at least for this event.
"As an incentive, each faction has set aside a powerful weapon to entice players to choose their side," senior designer Tim Williams described the event. "The faction whose Guardians collect the most faction packages will be declared the winner," he added.
Special faction-tied weapons are up for grabs by the end of the event on Oct. 3, as Bungie declares a winning faction later that day at 1 p.m. EDT.
