Detroit Pistons News and Rumors: Team Recalls Brandon Jennings After Stint in D-League
Brandon Jennings' season is forgettable, and it looks like there's more uncertainty waiting for him as he returns to the NBA and fight for a spot as Reggie Jackson's backup at point. After spending a single game in the D-League as part of his recovery process, the Pistons have recalled the guard for pro duties.
It can be remembered that the spitfire guard ruptured his left Achilles almost one year ago and he hasn't had enough time played in actual NBA basketball for quite some time now. But the news of his return in the Detroit lineup will definitely give a boost to its struggling backcourt.
The Pistons are currently in the middle of the Eastern Conference pack at 16-12, something they haven't done in consecutive seasons prior to this. The team is well-coached, and the fact that Jackson is already blossoming into a legitimate star in this league means that Jennings might just be as expendable as any other guard wearing the Pistons uniform. His return from a serious injury will determine if the team will eventually pursue a trade for him. At this point, though, it's all about coming back.
A stint in the D-League is a lesson of humility for established NBA players and even franchise first-round picks and veteran stars. But for Jennings, it looks like he has embraced the challenge. Proving he still belongs in the big league, he produced a solid game, scoring 11 and handing out 12 assists, highlighted by several spectacular reel passes.
The offensive-minded guard has spent six years in the NBA and the Achilles injury proved to be a major stumbling block for him to land a bigger and star-quality contract. Before going down with the injury, he has amassed averages of 15.4 points, 6.4 assists, as well as 3.2 rebounds every game. Many basketball experts projected he'll become a superstar in the league, but so far, it would be fair to say that's he has been underperforming.
