Detroit's Anti-Islam Rally: TheCall Founder Lou Engle Leads the Controversial Charge (VIDEO)

Detroit is getting ready for a 24-hour rally starting Friday evening that will speak out against abortion, homosexuality and Islam extremism, organized by Christian group TheCall.

The event is expected to stir up tensions amongst the city’s Muslim population that is estimated to be close to 200,000 strong. Detroit has seen a number of anti-Islam leaders and organizations speak against the Islam religion, including Pastor Terry Jones, who planned to burn Qurans in a public display last year, along with the controversial Westboro Baptist Church.

TheCall has been holding rallies on various issues, ranging from same-sex marriage to abortion and Islam, and plans to tackle all of them at Friday’s event. The rally begins at the Detroit Lions’ Fort Field stadium. It will pray for the restoration of Christianity in the United States, and it will urge Americans to unite against the rise of radical Islam, according to the Associated Press.

Many Muslims, however, believe such rallies are putting in danger all adherents of the Islam faith, regardless if they are branded as extremists or not.

TheCall said Detroit is a "microcosm of our national crisis," and sees their efforts as the first step to sparking conservative change in the country. Organizers have said the U.S. is under a “satanic spirit” that can be eradicated through prayer and fasting.

The cofounder of TheCall, Lou Engle, has experience with organizing several big-stage prayer rallies, including the first ever “Justice House of Prayer” event at Washington in 2004 that protested against abortion. He also organized a 2008 rally in San Diego in support of Proposition 8, the anti-gay-marriage bill.
