Developer Announces New Feature, Special Edition of 'DiRT 4'

Gamers can expect two editions of Codemasters' upcoming rally racing video game, "DiRT 4," coming their way this June.

According to Xbox Achievement, the developer recently announced that the 12th game in the 'Colin McRae Rally' series would also be getting both Special Edition and Day One Edition treatments.

When the game is launched in June for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, those who will buy the Day One Edition are set to receive not only a copy of "DiRT 4," but several other freebies. These include an exclusive Hyundai R5 rally car, access to a unique Hyundai event (scheduled on June 9 to 11), and a Founder Icon. Some retailers (the list will be announced soon) will also be adding a steelbook gift.

The Special Edition package also contains the same items, but with the addition of a Team Booster pack.

Meanwhile, a special trailer released by Codemasters reveals the game's newest feature called "Your Stage." According to its description, this will allow players to generate "a near infinite number of unique stages." They only need to select a particular location (e.g. Australia, Spain, Michigan, Sweden or Wales), choose the time of day and weather conditions and they are all set up. The route's length and difficulty may be adjusted depending on the gamer's preference.

In a recent interview (according to GameSpot), chief game designer Paul Coleman revealed that they have been working on "Your Stage" since 2011, when "DiRT 3" was first launched.

"It's a revelation as now our players will get the thrill of driving a new stage whenever they want," Coleman told GameSpot. He adds: "It is extremely simple for you to create a stage but, behind the scenes, we have an extraordinarily complex series of rules and algorithms that put these routes together. Your Stage creates such a huge variety of routes, some that we would never have thought of crafting before, and they're amazing to drive."

"DiRT 4" will be released on June 6 in North America and June 9 in Europe for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
