Devil Worshiper Suspect Killed, Dismembered and Ate Woman in Tennessee: Gregory Hale Arrested
A suspected devil worshiper killed, dismembered and ate his victim in Manchester, Tennessee last Friday, according to reports. Police say that Gregory Scott Hale, 37, admitted to the gruesome murder and subsequent cannibalism of 36-year-old Lisa Hyder of Dekalb County.
The devil worshiper suspect apparently asking a neighbor to help dispose of Hyder's body, so they became suspicious and called police. When authorities arrived they found the woman's remains on the grounds and arrested Hale, WSMV reported.
As authorities questioned the suspect, more of the grisly details became clear: while talking around a fire in his home, Hale killed Hyder, then decapitated her corpse, chopped off her hands and feet, and ate parts of her dead body, according to a police affidavit. Some of the remains were left in two plastic buckets on the property, and Hale attempted to burn the corpse's torso in a fire on his property.
Though Hale admitted to murdering the woman in an arrest warrant obtained from the Coffee County General Sessions Court, police established no obvious motive for the violence and cannibalism— the 37-year-old man said he had met Hyder in Manchester and didn't know each other before then.
However, those who know Hale have filled in some of the unknown details with their own speculation. A friend of the suspect told WSMV that Hale was a self-described devil worshiper who lost his job at a slaughterhouse because he was caught performing a satanic ritual with animal remains.
Neighbors, too, told the station that Hale was a sick person who was a follower of Satan.
Investigators are still looking into the claims.
"We will certainly be looking into everything that we're hearing. As you can image the things that you're hearing are the same things that we're hearing," Assistant District Attorney Maria Holloway said.
Hale is charged with first-degree murder and the abuse of a corpse. He is being held in the Coffee County Jail on $1.5 million bail and will make his first court appearance on June 23.
