'Dexter' Season 8 Episode 9 Recap: Vogel's Backstory Revealed
The most recent episode of the final season of "Dexter" provided interesting plot twists and new information on characters viewers knew little about. Most strikingly, this episode reveals many details of Dr. Vogel's past-- and they are darker than anyone could have guessed.
The missing backstory for Vogel is that she was married and had two sons. Daniel is the older one, and Richard was the youngest one. Daniel murdered his brother, because he's a psychopath (and the inspiration for Vogel's "Psychopath Whisperer" career), and, Vogel tells Dexter, she and her husband covered up the murder and had Daniel committed to an institution when he was 14.
Views are made privy to more information about Dr. Vogel than ever before. It seems that the reason she went into a career in therapy is far more personal than anyone could have anticipated.
That might have been heavy enough and certainly been enough tragedy for one family to bear. But the show kept pushing Vogel's suffering.
It was revealed that she lost her only surviving son when he was just 17 because the mental institution caught on fire. However, Vogel might have been told a lie.
It seems there is a chance that Daniel Vogel is alive and living under an alias. Dexter finds a photo of Daniel, and he looks extremely similar to Oliver. So similar that it prompts Dexter to wonder, "Is it possible this is Vogel's son?"
