Diane Keaton: Why My Relationships Never Worked
Actress Diane Keaton has had her fair share of relationships with high-profile men, including Warren Beatty, Woody Allen, and Jack Nicholson. None of them worked out, though, and now Keaton has provided explanation as to why.
"They needed the right kind of woman," Keaton told Ladies' Home Journal. "Managerial skills are necessary to handle men like that, and I'm not the manager type. I also don't think I have a lot of nurturing skills. I needed as much as they needed, and that's not a good mix."
All the men she dated, Keaton claimed, were as high-profile as she was, which made for a complicated situation. Neither was willing to bend in the relationship and instead wanted to further his or her career. Keaton has never married and has adopted her two children on her own.
Of course, the men that Keaton dated all went on to have significant relationships of their own, many of them lasting even today. Beatty married actress Annette Bening and they have four children. Allen, of course, has had his own tumultuous relationships, most notably with his adopted daughter Soon-Yi.
Keaton and Nicholson worked together on "Something's Gotta Give," which brought critical acclaim to both actors. The chemistry on-screen was palpable, and Nicholson reportedly pursued Keaton, but she merely said he was "exhausting" and "very adept at being the person you want to watch."
Now in her mid-60s, Keaton has made her life what she has wanted it to be. She adopted daughter Dexter and son Duke in her 50s and is known for being a somewhat of a fashion icon, as well continually working on new and different projects.
"You make a mistake here and there, you do too much or you do too little. Just have fun. And keep putting on lipstick," Keaton told the magazine.
