Diane Sawyer Slurring Words on TV Still: Anchor Silent After Election (VIDEO)
Two days after the President was re-elected, rumors are still swirling that ABC's Diane Sawyer was inebriated while on air after she slurred several of her words during the live broadcast.
The long time news correspondent is still dealing with accusations today that she was either drunk or high while she anchoring ABC's coverage of the 2012 presidential election.
Video of the coverage showed Sawyer slurring her words, repeating herself, mispronouncing the president's name and at one point resting her head on her hands that were placed on the anchors desk.
Representatives with the network quickly tried to end any rumors about Sawyer's state of mind while she was on the air. Officials explained that Sawyer had been extremely tired following extensive coverage of the aftermath of hurricane Sandy.
"Diane's been up for days and she's had many sleepless nights. She was covering the hurricane and then preparing for the election broadcast. If you knew Diane you'd realize she's one of the hardest working people on television," a source told the Daily Mail.
"She likes to cram things in, she likes to have every fact at her finger tips … and I think that came at the expense of the broadcast," the source added.
Conversations about Sawyer dominated various social media networks, including Facebook and Twitter, where viewers were reacting to the anchor's every move while hanging on every word she said.
Her unique hand gestures and overall mentality did not exactly flow with perceptions of Sawyer and even had co-host George Stephanopoulos befuddled. Sawyer has yet to comment on the night in question, and her silence has continued to fuel rumors over the news anchor's state of mind.
"She spent a number of sleepless nights preparing and rehearsing. It just caught up to her," a friend told ABC.
