Did Adele's 'Someone Like You' Performance Save the VMA’s? (VIDEO)
British music star Adele received a standing ovation last night for her performance of “Someone Like You,” on MTV’s annual Video Music Awards. In the morning, the singer continued to receive praise with many arguing that her performance made the insufferable awards tolerable.
Most critics where weary of the show even before Sunday, with one arguing that the music award show is “MTV’s annual salute to videos it never airs.” Even musicians jumped on the VMA bashing bandwagon prior to its Sunday airing with Adam Levine of Maroon 5 declaring that the VMA’s are the one time the network “pretends to still care about music.”
Rapper Busta Rhymes agreed with Levine and said on the show's black carpet on Sunday evening, “I think it is true, unfortunately.”

He added, “It ain’t what they used to be as far as supporting the music, you know what I’m sayin?”
Critics that watched the VMA’s echoed the same disappointment.
Nevertheless there seems to be one shining star that has emerged from the extensive criticism.
The VMA anomaly lies in soulful singer Adele.
An LA Times Blog contributor said of the singer’s performance, “Her voice is strong and direct, and tackles grief by moving with the melody rather than trying to pummel it. It was a less-is-more performance, a tactic award-show producers rarely indulge in, but Adele needs few adornments to impress.”
Another critic of the show, Roger Friedman, said of Adele’s performance, “It doesn’t matter if she wins or loses. She’s already won.”
Even other famous faces in the music industry expressed their appreciation for the British singer.
Lady Gaga said at the opening of the VMA’s, “She’s a breath of fresh air and she’s so exciting and her music is adding another dimension to radio that’s so important.”
Jessie J echoed Lady Gaga’s sentiments saying, “I’m so proud. I did go to school with Adele and she’s a good friend of mine, and I’m so proud of her and I’m so excited to see her.”
Adele was nominated for seven awards and she took home three moon-men including “Best Art Direction,” “Best Cinematography,” and “Best Editing” for her video “Rolling in the Deep.”
