'Dies Irae' Episode 2 Spoilers: Ren's Normal Life Is About to Change With the Arrival of the Longinus Dreizehn Orden

The anime adaptation of Light's popular visual novel video game, "Dies Irae," received negative feedback for choosing to air an episode labeled "0" to introduce the would-be villains of the show. With the airing of its official first season, has the series managed to make it up to its viewers?

Most fans are of the opinion that Episode 0 was an unnecessary foray into a backstory that may have only served to confuse, rather than get new viewers caught up, since it did feature the series' main Nazi villains, but didn't identify them as such.

The official first episode, however, served to introduce viewers to the series' main character, Ren Fujii, and the beginnings of how he got to that point in Episode 0 wherein he was finally confronting Reinhardt Heydrich, one of the main antagonists of the series.

Heydrich is said to be the Leader of the Longinus Dreizehn Orden and is a high-ranking official in Germany. He possesses seemingly limitless talents in the battlefield, which makes him a highly dangerous adversary for Ren.

Ren's strange dreams of being decapitated on a guillotine have already begun, which signals the changes that are about to happen in both the town and in Ren's personal life.

Moreover, Ren's childhood friend, Shirou Yusa, whose thrill-seeking tendencies have led to the two of them fighting and breaking their friendship off before the latter left town, has not been seen or heard from in days.

Where could he be, and how will the mystery of his disappearance eventually affect the changes that are about to befall Ren's otherwise normal, everyday life, especially now that Heydrich's people have reached the city?

"Dies Irae" airs on Mondays late night at 12:30 a.m. JST on BS11, on Fridays late night at 1:05 a.m. JST on Tokyo MX, and on Saturdays at 9 p.m. JST on AT-X. Information on other broadcast schedules and online resources can be found on the series' official site. Episodes will also be available in selected regions outside Japan via Crunchyroll.
