'Digimon Adventure Tri' Movie 5 Release Date, News: With Great Threats Come Greater Allies?
The fourth of the six-part film series of the popular action-adventure anime "Digimon Adventure tri." ended in a cliffhanger that hinted at large-scale destruction. What's coming next for the original eight DigiDestined and their rebooted Digimon partners in the upcoming installment of this gripping series?
Currently, not much is known about the plot of movie 5, reportedly titled "Symbiosis," aside from the ideas that can be deduced from the previous films.
The DigiDestined have enjoyed friendly relations with their Digimon partners, with whom they have had to become reacquainted with after the Digital World was rebooted in the third film.
The reboot was later revealed to have been planned by Yggdrasill, the mysterious host computer that rules over all of the Digital World, in an attempt to cut all interactions between Digimon and humans.
Will the DigiDestined and their Digimon be able to fully regain their memories prior to the reboot? What kind of destructive threat will Meicoomon be bringing to both the Digital World and the human world? And where will the fifth film take Himekawa and her newly resurrected Digimon's storyline? Will they be enemies or friends for Taichi and his crew?
The promotional image for the upcoming fifth installment also teases the possible appearance of another powerful yet evil Digimon in the form of Ophanimon Falldown Mode. Simply put, this is an angry Ophanimon who suppressed its own emotions, and thus became consumed with madness. It could also focus mainly on Kari ad Meiko, who are the two DigiDestined prominently featured in the image.
An official release date has not been announced but judging by the gaps between each film, "Digimon Adventure tri." could most likely come in the latter part of 2017. The forthcoming installment is expected to pick up from where the fourth one left off, and work its way to an explosive sixth and final installment, which may be due out much later this year or early next year.
"Digimon Adventure tri." serves as a direct sequel to the first two television series, and is set three years after the final episode of "Digimon Adventure 2." Its fifth film is expected to stream on Crunchyroll on the same day of its Japanese airing.
Meanwhile, Shout! Factory has reportedly earned the right to distribute official Blu-ray and DVD copies of the first three films later this year.
