Disney to Launch Own Streaming Service in 2019, Needs 32 Million Subscribers to Break Even

Disney's own streaming service will see the light of the day in a couple of years, debuting films and exclusive content from the company and Pixar that includes both TV series and movies. With Disney not just streaming their animated movies but also those of Star Wars, Pixar and Marvel Cinematic Universe films and shows, one can only imagine how much the company will have to spend for its future ventures.

According to recent reports, Disney's streaming service actually requires about 32 million subscribers in order for them to break even. It can be recalled that previously, the company had to put an end to its relationship with Netflix in order to make up for its losses, pulling out all its movies and shows from the popular streaming site.

Last month, news came out that Disney would be removing all of its movies and shows, including "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," "Captain America: Civil War," "Doctor Strange" and more, from Netflix, as the company transfers the said series to its own streaming outlet. By 2019, Disney will reportedly launch the streaming service, investing billions.

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed recently that Marvel and "Star Wars" movies would be made  available on the company's own streaming site in 2019. According to Business Insider: "The service will also include Disney and Pixar films, as well as exclusive content to the tune of 4-5 live-action movies (already in development), 4-5 TV series, and 3-4 TV movies. All that is in addition to a back catalog of 400-500 movies and around 7,000 episodes of TV."

According to Disney, their target of 32 million subscribers is not an impossible goal to meet, considering their bullish expectations when it comes to their growth in the SVOD marketplace globally. When Netflix was launched in 2007, it also set its sights on having 50 million subscribers worldwide in order to even things out, and it was able to achieve that target last year.
