Frozen 2 Release Date: Sequel Title 'Frozen Fever' Will be a Short to Premiere Spring 2015
Disney's animated film "Frozen" was a blockbuster hit that premiered 2013, its success still echoing even today. With worldwide audiences coming to praise the Disney film, a sequel was highly likely. A "sequel" titled "Frozen Fever" will premiere in Spring of 2015.
"Frozen Fever" isn't a direct sequel to the first film but instead is a spin-off short by Disney. The company first announced the animated short January 2014 and it came to no one's surprise that this was going to happen. After all, Frozen was easily one of Disney's highest-grossing animated films after it premiered in theatres November 2013.
Then a few weeks ago, Disney themselves announced the premiere of the short on their blog that included a synopsis on the plot.
"In 'Frozen Fever,' it's Anna's birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa's icy powers may put more than just the party at risk," a synopsis read.
The blog also gives out some details regarding the first film's production team. Apparently, the animated short will be the first project the Oscar-winning team which includes director's Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, and producer Peter Del Vecho. The short will also feature an all-new original song by Robert Lopez and Kristen-Anderson Lopez.
Even with the 2013 "Frozen" film being a phenomenal hit, the production team still has no plans regarding any future installments to the franchise. Looking at Disney's history, there haven't been many sequels to their animated films.
Only five of Disney's animated films have gotten direct sequels, with two of those being spin-offs. Those three sequels were "The Rescuers Down Under," "Peter Pan 2: Return to Neverland," and "The Jungle Book 2."
